The breadth of factors now recognised as shaping public responses to new technologies and new developments mean that any one disciplinary approach is insufficient to achieve a robust and sophisticated understanding or to provide the necessary insight and guidance for those involved in renewable energy development. Our research team, encompassing researchers in psychology, geography, sociology, planning and engineering, intended to provide the breadth of experience and expertise required to meet what amounts to a substantial and challenging research agenda.
