Work Package 3
Constructing a provisional framework for public engagement with renewable technologies
This package of work used a deliberative process to devise a new conceptual framework for understanding public engagement, informed by technical science and grounded in social science theory across several disciplines, encompassing concepts such as risk, trust, communication, place and identity processes and physical/contextual factors such as size, emissions, side-streams and landscape type. The task was led by Lancaster but with an emphasis upon deliberation and inter-disciplinary collaboration using a combinatory process of deskwork and a 1-day workshop for all academic partners. The provisional framework was timed to coincide with a second meeting of the project’s advisory panel, from whom feedback was sought about the validity and potential utility of the framework.
