Description - summary of the module content
Module description
The ‘Our Home Planet’ module will connect you with both land (the greenscapes that provide our home, our food, filter our water and draw down carbon from the atmosphere) and sea (the ocean ecosystems that shape the climate and support the diversity of life on Earth). The course will cover the basics from the definition of natural ecosystems, to why biodiversity matters to the understanding of ecological baselines, to introducing key concepts in marine biology. But further, it will provide you with the opportunity to develop your understanding of key planetary challenges for conservation and how these interact with zero carbon agendas. In addition, you will learn about how we can value and quantify the natural capital held in ecosystems and the services they provide through considering sustainable land- and ocean-management for food production.
