Access to the Map Collection
We no longer have a Map Library or Map Curator and, therefore, access to the map collection is restricted and arrangements are as follows:
- FOR ALL USERS access to the paper map collection is available via written request delivered in advance. There is no DIY system.
- Access by individual request is limited to Geography staff and postgraduates.
- Access by Geography undergraduates is restricted to dissertation students and requests from them must be directed and counter-signed by the dissertation advisor.
- Access by staff and postgraduates from other departments within the School is by written request but subject to time availability.
- No free access is provided to members of the University outside the School or to members of the public. Written requests will be considered and costed where necessary.
- Request forms are available from the foyer outside room 439 (Drawing Office) or can be downloaded here.
Completed forms should then be placed in the post box outside room 439, within the Drawing Office. Requests must be as specific as possible.
- Maps that are requested by Tuesday 12 noon will be made available on Wednesday afternoon 2 – 5pm in room 439 (requests received after Tuesday 12 noon will not be dealt with until the following Wednesday).
- Any requests to photocopy or scan must be accompanied by written permission from the copyright holder where this is required and this permission should be submitted with the request for access.
- All atlases are catalogued by the main library and the library reference information should be provided with any request for access.
