Biography

Henry Buller is Professor of Rural Geography at Exeter and is convenor of the Department of Geography’s ‘Nature, Society, Rurality’ Research Group. He is Editor of the international rural social science journal Sociologia Ruralis, is Chair of the IBG/RGS Rural Geography Study Group and is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society for Rural Sociology. He is also an associate member of the French CNRS research laboratory LADYSS at the University of Paris 10.

Having worked at Oxford Polytechnic in the early 1980s, then at the CNRS Groupe de Recherches Sociologiques at the University of Paris 10 at Nanterre, Henry was, before coming to Exeter Maitre de conférences at the Department of Geography at the University of Paris VII from 1990 to 2001, during which time he was also Director of the DESS ‘Espace et Milieux’ at that University, and later Professor of Rural Studies at the Countryside and Community Research Unit of the University of Gloucestershire

Author and editor of over 100 books, articles and research reports, his principal research interests are European rural change, development and policy, environmental politics, agro-food and animal/nature geographies. Henry Buller regularly participates as an expert and invited speaker at EU, international, national and regional conferences, workshops and seminars on these and other topics.

Henry Buller is Director of the BA in Human Geography at Exeter, is Erasmus Coordinator for the Department of Geography and Director of the Masters in Research in Human Geography.
