Programme overview
Sustainable development is now one of the key policy drivers in western societies. Sustainability pervades decision making at the global, national, regional and local levels and is becoming embedded politically in all layers of government. Both public agencies and private organisations need to appreciate the sustainability agenda, and what it means for them and their employees.
Our MSc Sustainable Development is designed to respond to this emerging agenda and approaches sustainable development from a holistic and multi-disciplinary perspective to offer you both a thorough grounding in the principles that underlie sustainability and the means by which to implement these principles in a range of contexts.
The programme has been developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, representing employers and organisations from the private, public and voluntary sectors.
Our MSc Sustainable Development is an innovative and flexible programme that offers:
- a foundation in sustainability principles alongside implementation-focused modules;
- a multidisciplinary and holistic perspective on sustainable development to ensure the joined-up thinking that is needed in today's policy environment;
- teaching by experts in the field, with staff who are active researchers on sustainability.
We also offer MSc Sustainable Development (Distance Learning).
I enjoyed the MSc in Sustainable Development and think it has been really useful both for my professional life and also for my personal life as Exeter has a really friendly environment. The MSc exceeded my expectations providing, not only a great selection of modules from which we got to choose according to our interests, whether they involved sustainable development in relation with communities, climate change, politics, governance, etc, but also really appropriate compulsory modules such as those related to data collection and analysis, which help put into practice and learn how to measure development.
I would definitely recommend this programme and hope more people like me, that come from a developing country, could participate since it provides theoretical and practical tools for the implementation of sustainable development related projects. I had the opportunity to benefit from lectures not only with great professors, but also with a great mixture of professionals who also participated on the MSc and brought very interesting backgrounds to contribute to the learning process.
The MSc provides a great deal of tools for students who wish either to attend lectures or participate virtually, which is also a great help for people abroad. It also allows for students to participate either full- or part-time, which is also very useful.
