Dr Matteo Vacchi
Lecturer in Physical Geography

Matteo obtained his Phd in Earth Science at the University of Genova (Italy) in 2012. His phd, carried out in collaboration with the University of Aegean (Greece),  was focused on the tectonic control of Holocene sea-level changes in the Aegean Sea.

After a first postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bologna (Italy), Matteo moved to France where he served as research fellow for the Aix-Marseille University-CEREGE (2013-2016) and for the University of Montpellier 3 (2017).

Matteo moved to Exeter in September 2017. His current research is mainly focused on long to short term evolution of the coastal zones with a major interest on the definition of current coastal vulnerability, on paleo-environmental reconstructions and late Quaternary sea level changes. Furthermore, Matteo's research activities are also focused on geo-archaeology, on marine biogeomorphology as well as on the geologic and geomorphologic mapping of marine and coastal areas
