Overview

I am an Earth-system scientist and specialise in sea-level research, primarily by developing and using proxy data from coastal environments. Having qualified in Environmental Geoscience at Cardiff University (2009), and later in Physical Geography at the University of Plymouth (2013), I developed broad interests in palaeoceanography, palaeoclimatology and palaeoecology. Following my PhD, I joined the laboratoire de dynamique et de gestion intégrée des zones côtières at the Université du Québec à Rimouski and took a leading role in their sea-level research programme. I brought this role to the UK as part of a collaboration with the University of Exeter in 2017 and am currently involved in a suite of multi-disciplinary projects headed by the two institutions.

Research

Research interests

I have research interests in sea-level reconstruction across temporal and spatial scales, coastal sediment and landform dynamics, Quaternary (particularly postglacial) sea-level mechanisms, blue carbon budgets and human-coastline interaction. I am most widely known for my use of novel sea-level indicators (e.g., salt-marsh testate amoebae) for developing high-resolution and precise sea-level records from past centuries and millennia to present day.
