Overview

Management of terrestrial ecology through agriculture and forestry is one of the key ways in which humanity interacts with Earth system processes. My research focuses on understanding and quantifying the influence of food production and other land uses on biogeochemical cycles liike the global carbon and nutrient cycles, and on other ecological traits like biodiversity. I am also interested in trying to understand how land use practices and other elements of the food system might be adapted to form a more sustainable long-term relationship with the Earth system. Currently a major focus of this work is on the potential for reversing forest degradation in the tropics to boost carbon sequestration.
