Dr Ute Schuster
Senior Lecturer

Profile

I am a marine biogeochemist studying the variability of the marine carbon cycle through observations and numerical techniques. I am a member of the observational group at Exeter that specialises in making and interpreting oceanic measurements of carbon cycle parameters at high accuracy. My core research aims to understand the biogeochemical drivers of the changes observed in the marine carbon cycle, both the exchange of CO2 with the atmosphere at the sea surface and the transport of carbon in the ocean interior.

I am the lead of the Atlantic section in the Surface Ocean CO2 Atlas (www.socat.info).

I am actively involved in UK NERC funded projects: ABC fluxes (www.rapid.ac.uk/abc) and RAGNARoCC (www.greenhouse-gases.org.uk/ragnarocc); and EU funded projects: FixO3 (www.fixo3.eu) and RINGO.

Previous projects I worked in included the UK NERC funded Ocean Acidification Programme (www.oceanacidification.org.uk), and the EU funded projects CAVASSOO, IMCORP, and GREENCYCLES II (www.greencycles.org), CARBOCHANGE (carbochange.b.uib.no), INGOS (www.ingos-infrastructure.eu), and GEOCARBON (www.geocarbon.net)

Broad research specialisms:
