About me:

I am a feminist political geographer who works interdisciplinarily with a focus on abortion in Latin America. I joined the geography department in 2020. My work is broadly on borders, mobility and violence and to date has almost entirely been in Latin America. I am currently working on a Wellcome Trust and ESRC funded research project looking at abortion im/mobilities across Latin America.

I work a lot on engaged and creative projects beyond academia, being PI on projects such as comics, a database, a documentary, and podcasts. These can be found under the 'professional activities' tab.

NEW BOOKS:

My monograph Magic Misoprostol: Reproductive Justice and Abortion Liberation was published open access by Bristol Univesity Press in 2025 so the whole book is free to read here

My co-edited Handbook of Feminist Political Geography was published by De Gruyter in 2025. It includes 47 chapters that span some of the rich and exciting work in the sub-discipline.

Broad Research Specialisms:

  • Reproductive justice, primarily abortion access in Latin America
  • Borders and border violence
  • Feminist political geography
  • The politics of representation

PhD Supervision

I would be happy to supervise appropriate projects relating to these themes. Please get in touch by email to discuss potential supervision. As the Director of Postgraduate Resarch for Human Geography you can also get in touch with me to discuss doing a PhD in the department more broadly.

Current Students:

  • Abyssinia Abay Mengistu (2025-) Geopolitics, Biological Determinism, and State Violence on Bodily Autonomy in East Africa: Ethiopia and Kenya in focus. ESRC (SWDTP) funded.
