Becca Cole (They/Them)
Postgraduate Researcher
Physical Geography
I am a Geographer wokring on paleo-science for modern appplications. My primary research interests are in the use of paleo-techniques to answer questions of the past, present and future environment and climate, particularly to mitigate climate change. I have worked across the British Isles and Chilean Patagonia in an effort to answer these questions.
My PhD is focused on evaluating the importance of the largest carbon sinks in Patagonia (Fjords and Peatlands). My research includes understanding spatio-temporal vulnerability of these ecosystems, and hence their carbon sinks, under a changing climate, and produce carbon budgets for fjords and peatlands in Patagonia. This research will contribute to the Chilean carbon accounting, and protecting these systems so they can tackle climate change, not enhance it.
