Physical Geography
I am a geographer and environmental scientist with a particular interest in remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and the carbon cycle in tropical ecosystems. I have a background in Geography (UNESP/Brazil), a Master of Science in Remote Sensing (INPE/Brazil) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Geography (University of Exeter). My research is focused on elucidating the impact of human activities, including land use change, landscape fragmentation, and fire, on the carbon cycle and broader ecological processes in tropical ecosystems. I employ advanced GIS and remote sensing techniques to analyse spatial data, thereby gaining insights into the complex relationships between human actions and environmental changes. My research is particularly interested in the effects of these activities on carbon storage and emissions in tropical ecosystems, which are crucial for understanding and mitigating climate change.
