Felipe is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the NERC/AHRC-funded project BioResilience, which examines the long-term resilience of Colombian forest ecosystems to environmental and climatic changes.

His research focuses on the long-term dynamics of socio-ecological systems in the tropics and aims to understand the effects of climate change and human activity on plant communities. He uses fossil pollen, charcoal, fossilized water fleas, sedimentology, and numerical analysis of paleo-records to understand the past environmental change. His research over the last 5 years has contributed to the understanding of the drivers of vegetation dynamics and structure in the mountain ecosystems of Mexico and Colombia.

Broad research specialisms:

Long-term ecology, biogeography, geochemistry, palaeoclimatology

PhD Earth Sciences (National Autonomous University of Mexico)
MSc (Hons) Earth Sciences (National Autonomous University of Mexico)
BSc (Hons) Forest Engineering (National University of Colombia, Medellin)
