Overview

I started my PHD with a scholarship from UKRI EPSRC within the Environment and Sustainability Research Group based at the Department of Human Geography, the University of Exeter. In my research, titled “Net Zero Energy Transition in Rural Landscapes: A Study into the Interface between Technology, Livelihood, and Climate”, I aim to investigate the energy justice issues related to net-zero energy transition and its impact on the everyday life and livelihood of the people who are directly and indirectly impacted both positively and negatively. My supervisory team includes Professor Karen Bickerstaff and Dr Catherine Butler from the University of Exeter.

Previously, I completed my MPhil in Sociology from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 2020 where I investigated the challenges faced by the grass-root organizations in mobilizing the local community towards combating unemployment and utilizing local resources for both sustainable/ alternative livelihood and developing employment in the Indian Sundarbans. My other qualifications include a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Presidency College, Calcutta University, Kolkata, India and MA in Sociology from Presidency University, Kolkata, India.

In addition to my academic career, I also have five years of professional experience as business analyst for a green consulting company; social consultant for greenfield and brownfield engineering projects; and project executive in education & life skill development, archival research and data analysis on perspectives of gender, public and community health

Research interests

My key research interests include sustainable development, energy transition, energy justice for a low-carbon economy and the Global South.

In addition, I am also a keen enthusiast in arenas of gender, performative arts (classical dance).
